We get the two-ply, additional stout rolls of toilet paper from my husband’s indiscriminate industrial distributor.
I already have an organic, compost toilet commissioned in my house, as well as you can’t unequivocally put the used toilet paper in it.
I suspicion it would be the good thought only to wash it out as well as re-use it. Has any one attempted this before? (my father goes by A LOT of TP)
thanks as well as God bless!

Conserving is one thing. Being gross is another.
I just throw it in the washer and then the dryer. It works really well and doesn’t get clogged in the little washer holes or dryer filter.
Really - try it. Just be sure to wash a HUGE load of it at once so that you can conserve water.
I personally like the effort you put into this but if your not joking you my dear have taken it too far. If you look at my profile you will see I don’t often say this. If you have a compostable toilet great combine that with 100% post consumer tp or even better get a bidet attachment and call it good. They have bidet attachments that go on a standard toilet if you have already taken the step to compostable toilet the bidet will be a piece of cake and take care of the bulk of the tp issue.
I am not sure if I really want to answer that, but no I have not tried it.
Just give a test-run and put all the used TP in a laundry bag in the washer and let it run.
See what you get when you are done.
No.. TP will essentially dissolve when it is thoroughly whetted.. it is not strong enough to be washed and reused. Also I doubt if it would be sanitary..
Maybe if you wanted to use paper towels (a recent Bounty add touted that it could be rinsed and re-used) although that would not be very soft on your privates.
For sanitary purposes I would think it will be better if you try washcloths that are designed to be washed and re-used..
Good try though..
Gee. How skanky does a person have to be to come up with this idea?
Everyone knows you feed the used toilet paper to the dogs.
I think it would be a better idea to buy 100% recycled toilet paper and not worry about using a large amount. Maybe you could calculate how much you have used and plant a tree for that much toilet paper. To be honest, you would have a better impact on the environment if you invested in renewable energy, such as wind or solar energy. Still, if you are committed, good luck with the toilet paper quest.
I haven’t tried it with “two-ply”, but it works well with the industrial single ply sand paper stuff I steal from work. Plus after 3 or 4 rinsings it greatly reduces the amount of paper cuts I get down there.
Keep up the good work. GO GREEN!!!
Yeah sure, rinse it out, lay it in a flat, thin layer, dry it overnight and see if you can make stationary paper out of it. You could then use it to correspond with all those pesky “you never write me anymore” people.
why not use a rag, this is the nastiest thing i have ever heard of
Hey do your business and hop in the shower that it problem solved… go trees!
I don’t think that it is a good idea to reuse. I don’t think that it will get rid of all the fecal matter just by rinsing it. If you wash it in the washer
I don’t think that it would be very sanitary. If you are really worried about it maybe not even use TP do like they used to do before there was TP a rock or some kind of leaf maybe even cut up some towels and use those. I’m sure that could be washed and sanitized. Just make sure you have TP for your guest non recycled please.
We’ve been re-using our TP for years but we smash it all into one huge lump then rinse it and flatten it out, dry it, then reuse it as facial tissues. Once it’s been re-used as a facial tissue, we then give it one more rinse/dry session and it is lastly re-balled and dried again then we make our own Q-tips. A little TP can really go a long way if you’re dedicated and patient.
egad, human fecal matter is loaded with some nasty bio organisms. better not try to recycle, the health issues that could arise would negate any savings by trying to recycle the TP. If your trying to lessen your family’s environmental impact then use wash cloths, preferably white ones, easier to tell when used. just wash them with some bleach. People used wash cloths for years in the outhouse before the advent of TP.
instead of washing it - try using both sides
i know some guys from yahoo chat who will show up to your door and, you know, clean you without the TP
gross isn’t it
You should just use socks! After you wash them, you can then wear them around!
It’s like 2 things for the price of one!
I don’t understand why you need to clean it before reusing it. That’s just a waste of water. Just label the used piles “his” and “hers” and have at it.
i love the planet and i love to be green, but i think reusing toilet paper is a little extreme. you don’t have to be gross to save the planet. the smallest things make a difference like recycling, not littering, save water, conserve energy and stuff like that is helping the earth rather than completely ignoring the issues.
you don’t have to reuse your tp though.
No problem with it going in there, at least for the one I used to have. No need to rinse it out, just use the other side, then hang it up to dry and use it again.
You can’t wash TP, it will just dissolve. I think you should just wipe your ass with your hand towels, and then wash them every two weeks.
Just use washcloths and wash em. BTW, Fabreeze is fab instead of doing the laundry.
I would say if you really want to conserve in this way, then get cloth diapers, then when you use it, you can clean it and then use it again, that would be the best way to do this, plus it would save you, on buy more tp in the first place
It wouldn’t really help to conserve in the long run because the amount of water and electricity you would use to wash the toilet paper is more than the amount of water and electricity used to make the t.p. out of recycled paper.
Remember that your time and effort is worth money. If you don’t look at it that way, at least consider the fact that you could be using that time and energy to do something more useful for the environment, such as planting some trees to renew the wood, as a previous poster suggested.
Also, some E. coli may survive the washing, even in hot water. You could be putting your health at risk. (And if you end up with diarrhea because of E. coli infection, you don’t end up saving paper that day.)
no sorry, you can recycle the roll whatever you didn’t use. you can recycle napkins if they don’t have much on them but toilet paper isn’t to sanitary…
but recycle the toilet paper tube
well really now , get that stuff wet and you have mush… just use a wash cloth and rinse it out …this was used for 100yrs by our forefathers…
Is this serious? Cuz it sounds insane.
Use white cotton washcloths. Then wash them in a load of their own with bleach. Make sure your water heater is set to at least 130-140 degrees.
It would be a lot more sanitary and reasonable method to go.
I thought this a joke when I read it - but no, I’m just so out of date!
But - being an old-timer I must say all those posts about washing tp being not good enough to make it clean enough to use are a laugh - so washing babies nappies is presumably OK - but it’s not good enough for adults?
This really made my day. Some of the “answers” are priceless. I’m going to assume you’re also re-using teabags. The only advice I can think of is don’t mix the two up.
You know, the ancient Romans used sponges on sticks. Then you could (but they didn’t) just wash the sponges and boil them for five minutes to kill bacteria.
Also, I think that you might be taking this a little too far.
No, no, no! You don’t rinse out the toilet paper! You use your old stained panties with the crust in the crotch to wipe your bottom hole with and then just throw them in the dishwasher when you do a load! Hope this helps…
