Sorry to put a dampener on things, but this really is Ozrics worst effort yet. Every Ozrics album has a few outstanding tunes on it, a couple of good tunes and a few “album fillers”. Sadly, every tune on this album is an album filler. The songs start, ramble on for 8 minutes or so, and then draw to an unclimatic close. Contrary to other reviews, there is no techno in here, just a bit of filter cutoff twiddling, the drums are all way to tappy tappy and lack any real drive and each song is laiden with the usual array of overplayed Ozric bubbles. Jurassic Shift - now there’s an album.

i met a couple at a ‘yes’ concert - they gave me an ozric tentacles disc (pungent effulgent) - these humans were surprised that i was unfamiliar with the ozrics - since i am such an avid ‘yesfan’ - - knocked-over as i was after hearing ‘pungent’ - that decided to try waterfall cities - this is quite amazing music - its sound is fluid and yet solid at the same time - very very impressive - it should be played at maximal volume - which implies raw power - yet it has such delicate moments of beauty that it is astonishing - - if you’ve come to this page - you’re probably already familiar with this music - so i’ll not convince you to buy this - either you will or you wont - - but *if* you really did just stumble here to this page - and are unfamiliar with this group (as i was) - buy this disc - it is not ‘progressive rock’ really - i have no idea how you would catagorize this music - it is truly unbelievable - it defies description “add to shopping cart - proceed to checkout” and play it very very loud space puppy - out

This CD can get pretty intense, with crazy synths making your head go in every which direction. Bass that is bouncin’. Guitar that is streamin’. And flutes that are well, flutes. This Cd is my fav. and it very well could be their best CD.

A must for your collection, this cd is great. Not for every taste of course, but for the one’s checking Ozric’s cd’s this is a great example of what Ozric Tentacles can do today, a beautiful work of art. I don’t know matter of factly, but I believe there is a great deal of improv. on Ozric’s records, and this one no exception, at least a huge and pleasing amount of spontaneity, my personal favourites are, by far: Waterfall Cities (3) and Spiralmind (7), I would say these songs are EUPHORIC, they wanna make you move, jump and dance, and in a great vibe! Plus beautiful instrument playing from all of the guys in the band. I consent with another reviewer in that Ozric Tentacles is getting farther away from folk and tribal music… Great! They are much more modern and updates, they sound cool, thay are great. The flute is progressively losing importance, but it becomes much more special and hugely emotive. Man I love this band. Altough not for every moment, it’s sofistication but at the same time simple direct sound, make you feel great. When you feel like hearing Ozric’s, well, it’s just perfect.
This cd makes a great treat for Summer time, with the light guitars and the funky bass. And Ozric Tentacles, as a whole band, makes great music for walking, driving or any type of trip you think of. Jurassic Shift (another cd by the band) is especially great for highway driving trips, at huge unstoppable speeds, it has this special quality of travel, especially space-travel… you can certainly get to feel like in some really crazy game, with music and all… and believe me, this is not only me, every one I’ve had these cd on when driving feels like flying.
I don’t think this cd has any bad songs, as such, but actually has songs which make you tired, perhaps the keyboards at the start on 1 and 2. but they later get really improved, so ditch the keyboards, cause everything else is great. Same thing happensa with 4, though it has a different feel to the other two… it’s a weird sound, not bad, just weird… I don’t happen to particularly like it but a friend of mine got especially crazy about it… Ozric Tentacles does that, some sounds make you wanna tingle your feet or move your head or whatever corporal strangeness you feel like doing… I don’t know if everyone has this response with Ozric, but certainly a lot of people, it hits a chord, yes it does.
So, if you’re searching for good Ozric tentacles, get this one or The Hidden Step, both are the newest LP’s, and just sound VERy good. A great alternative band that shoul get some radio airplay some day, for the driving mammal at least, let’s see if a couple of them just don’t start moving in their seats!
