WOULD IT BE PRACTICAL FOR THE US TO RETURN TO AN INDUSTRIAL MANUFACTURING BASED ECONOMY?

This would enlarge a US’ exports over imports as well as emanate some-more jobs. we do not hold which a sell formed manage to buy will await a US for a prolonged term. Not to discuss it would enlarge the unfamiliar dependencies.

Yes, we need to absolutely return to a manufacturing based economy! Because every other country in the world basically has our economy by the tail. You know why all these banks are getting bailed out by the government? Because China is finally selling their securities and wants the cash owed to them. But where did they get the money to buy those securities in the first place? You can thank the American consumer for putting change into the pocket of Chinese banks because for every dollar we spend on Chinese goods, some of it eventually goes to Chinese banks. Now I’m not saying stop buying Chinese goods, but if weren’t so dependent on them, we wouldn’t be in this crisis right now.

So you want some people to quit what they’re doing now and get assembly line jobs to make things we can sell to other countries?

So tell us what do you want to sacrifice and do without in order to free up labor to make stuff for people in other countries? What types of goods or services do you buy that you want to give up?

Even if we did not import any manufactured goods, the number of people employed in manufacturing would still be much less than it has been in the past because manufacturing has become much more efficient. As people become richer they spend a larger fraction of their money on services, because there is a limit on how much stuff you can take care of without hiring help. Now our economy is 80% service and our imports only 10% of what we consume, and a large fraction of that is oil.
